Companion Care for Seniors in Dubai

Not every parent needs nursing. Some need someone in the house, a conversation, a walk, and a reason to get dressed in the morning.

Loneliness in older adults is measured as a health risk comparable to smoking. It is also the easiest one to do something about.

Companionship for seniors in Dubai
What a companion actually does

The job is company. Everything else follows from it.

Companion care is not watered-down nursing. It is a different job, and the people who are good at it are good at being with people.

forum

Conversation and company

Time, attention and interest. For someone who spends most of the week alone, this is the entire point and it is not a small thing.

directions_walk

Walks and getting outside

A daily walk keeps mobility, sleep and mood in a completely different place. Most seniors stop going out because they have nobody to go with.

restaurant

Meals and eating together

Cooking and eating with them, not just leaving food. People who live alone eat badly, and eating with someone is the reliable fix.

directions_car

Appointments and errands

Accompanied to the doctor, the pharmacy, the bank and the supermarket, with someone who remembers what the doctor said.

interests

Hobbies and routine

Cards, photographs, music, prayer, reading, whatever their day used to contain. Structure is what stops the days blurring.

visibility

An extra pair of eyes

Not clinical monitoring, but someone who notices a new limp, a skipped meal, a bruise or a change in mood, and tells you.

When families arrange it

Usually well before anyone calls it care.

They live alone

A widowed parent in a flat, seeing nobody between family visits. The most common reason we are called.

The family is abroad

Adult children in London, Toronto or Riyadh who need somebody to actually be there, and to tell them honestly how things are.

They have stopped going out

Withdrawal is the first visible step in decline, and it accelerates quickly once it starts.

After a bereavement

The months after losing a spouse are when decline is steepest and when company matters most.

To give the family a break

The daughter or son doing everything. A few afternoons a week is often enough to make it sustainable.

As a gentle first step

Many families use companion care to introduce the idea of help before it is genuinely needed. Acceptance is far easier this way than in a crisis.

Not sure they would accept it?

Most do not, at first. Tell us about them and we will suggest how to introduce it, which usually is not as care at all. It works more often than families expect.

How it works

From first message to care at the door.

Tell us about them

Not the diagnosis list. Their language, where they are from, what they did for work, what they enjoy, what they miss.

We match on the person

Language and culture matter enormously here. A companion who cannot talk to them properly is not companionship.

Start small

A few hours, twice a week, is the usual beginning. Almost every family increases it later.

Keep the same person

Companionship is a relationship. We keep continuity rather than sending whoever is free that day.

My mother refused help for two years. We introduced her as someone to help with the shopping. They now have coffee together twice a week and she looks forward to it.

We live in London and my father is in Dubai alone. Someone is with him three afternoons a week and tells us honestly how he is doing.

She speaks Malayalam with him, which none of the grandchildren do any more. He is a different person since she started.

After my grandmother lost her husband she stopped leaving the flat. The daily walk was the thing that turned it around.

It is not medical care and we did not want medical care. It is company, which is what she actually needed.

FAQ

Questions families ask before booking.

Is companion care the same as a caregiver?
There is overlap but they are different jobs. A caregiver focuses on personal care, bathing, dressing, mobility and medication. A companion focuses on company, activity, outings and daily life. Many families start with companionship and add personal care later as needs change, often with the same person.
Can you match language and nationality?
Yes, and for companionship it matters more than almost anything else. We have companions across English, Arabic, Tagalog, Hindi, Malayalam and Urdu. Tell us which language they are most at ease in, particularly if their English has faded with age.
What is the minimum booking?
A few hours, a couple of times a week, is a normal starting point and there is no long commitment. Most families increase the hours over time because it works.
My father says he does not need anyone. What do we do?
Very common, and refusing help is usually about independence rather than about the person coming. Introducing a companion as help with shopping, driving or the house rather than as care works far more often. Give it two or three visits before deciding it has not worked.
Can the companion drive them to appointments?
They can accompany them to appointments, wait, and report back what was said, which is often the most useful part. Tell us if driving is required and we will confirm what can be arranged.
Are female companions available?
Yes, and most families request one. We match on gender, language and temperament together, because with companionship the fit is the service.
